Hand-painted Bowl

Hooked Table Mat

Antique Adaptation - Floral

Hand painted bowl heralds the arrival of snow: "Announced by all - The trumpets of the sky - Arrives the snow." The last of the crap apples cling to their branches as the blackbirds trumpet in the first snowfall. Acrylic on a faux wooden (resin) bowl. Signed and dated. Measures 8½ inches.

I love this piece. Traditional rug hooked table mat, measuring 14x16 inches. This would also make a great pad for a chair with a rectangular seat. Or, hang it on your wall or on a cupboard door.

Cabinet with rug hooked insert

Punch Needle Adaptation

Several years ago, I found some antique books that were falling apart. I chose some pages and painted little vignettes on them with a wash of acrylics so you can still read the text underneath. I matted and framed the pages and wrote the title of the book from which the page came on the matte. This is my favorite of those little paintings. Roy's Visit is a story from St. Nicholas Illustrated Magazine for Young Folk, October 1880. As you can see, the words in the text are hyphenated to indicate the syllable breaks for young readers. Framed in a 10 x13 inch black wood frame that has been sanded back to give a time-worn appearance. Signed and dated.

Magazine Model:

This is the little key cabinet I designed for Create and Decorate magazine. I painted and aged the wooden cabinet, and then hooked an insert for the door in a Log Cabin design. The cabinet is painted a slate grey-blue color and the wools in the hooking compliment the color nicely.

Finished inside and out with a soft, matte varnish to protect the wood and bring out the natural beauty.

Cabinet measures 15 x 9 x 3 inches - a perfect size to hang next to the door and hold your keys, or to tuck in anywhere.

Magazine Model:

I adapted an antique hooked rug that I saw at an auction and also made this miniature companion piece in punch needle embroidery for Create and Decorate magazine. 'Animal skin' hooked rugs were so called since they resembled a rug made from a tanned animal hide.

This piece was worked with two strand of wool thread on a ground of weaver's cloth. It is simply framed in an oak frame. Artwork measures 4 x 2½ inches (framed size 5 x 7 inches.)

I had a problem getting a great photo - if you are interested in this piece but would like another photo, please email and I will send you some better photos.

Antique Adaptation Table Mat

Magazine Model:

This is my adaptation of an antique hooked rug. Hooked with 100% wool strips on a linen foundation. Softly faded wool colors of overdyed and as-is wool makes this primitive pattern sing

Measures 13 x 17 inches and is bound with traditional black twill tape.

The piece is the model used for the project photo shoot at Create and Decorate magazine.

Grape Wine - Table Mat

Every time I look at this mat it reminds me of grapes - it's color scheme of luscious magentas, purples, and blues with just a hint of green. Like a grape arbor loaded with grapes ready for harvest. Lots of textured wools give this mat a subdued palette of deep color.

The design of pen wipes and shells creates a pretty cross in the center of the mat.

Bound with strips of wool in deep burgundy. Measures 10.5 x 9 inches.
